Road Safety : a world stake
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2015, road accidents will be one of the first death causes in the world and the first cause for children in developing countries.
In Europe, there are nearly 40 000 fatalities on our roads each year, according to the European Road Safety Observatory (ERSO).
To improve this situation, actions should be implemented on the whole components of the system "vehicle-user-road infrastructure". Even if one action could deal with one component of the system in priority, this action should take into account the other components of the system.
The main mission of the Scientific Network of the French Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea is to elaborate methodologies in order to take into account the Road Safety stakes during the design and the exploitation of road networks. The goal is to reduce the part of the road infrastructure in accident factors.
